Java, a plain bordered by a centuries-old volcano. Glossy green palm trees, one-horned
rhinoceroses, giant flowers in changing colours, prehistoric buffalo, and bent-backed pilgrims. The
temple of Borobudur, shrouded in mist, rises up like a lotus blossom.
